AMANDA, Ohio — Sixth-grade students at Amanda-Clearcreek Local Schools recently took their science lessons beyond the classroom during a hands-on learning excursion to Clearcreek Metro Park.

The annual field trip, hosted in partnership with naturalists from Clearcreek Metro Park and the Fairfield County Soil and Water Conservation District, gives students direct experience with the natural features of their local community.
During the event, students rotated through three specialized educational stations:
- Stream Study: Examining aquatic ecosystems and water quality firsthand.
- Habitat Hike: Exploring regional flora, fauna, and local ecological balance.
- Rocks, Minerals & Soils: Analyzing the geological features and ground composition of the area.
Beyond the environmental curriculum, the trip integrated career exploration. Prior to setting out, Amanda-Clearcreek Middle School career explorations teacher Jennifer Lederle discussed related professional fields with the students, encouraging them to ask park staff and conservation experts about potential career paths in natural resources.
“Our sixth-grade students receive a comprehensive, real-world learning experience from this combination of classroom lessons and hands-on activities at Clearcreek Metro Park,” said Dr. Timothy Edwards, superintendent of Amanda-Clearcreek Local Schools. “Thanks to the partnership between our district and the staff at Clearcreek Metro Park and the Fairfield County Soil and Water Conservation District, we’re able to provide engaging opportunities to help our students maximize their educational journey.”
