Athens County – Two Arrested For Trafficking Charges After Overdose Death Investgation

On April 5th, 2023, the Southeast Major Crimes Task Force executed a search warrant in Millfield related to a drug trafficking investigation.

The Athens County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team served the warrant in Millfield and secured the residence. Daniel Martin was taken into custody at the scene.

Simultaneously, Tonia Martin was taken into custody at her place of employment by Deputies of the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.


Detectives had conducted a long-term investigation prompted by an overdose death that occurred in October 2022 at the residence of Daniel and Tonia Martin, who live at 13753 Howard Road, Millfield, Ohio.


During the search of the home, Detectives located firearms, cash, and numerous items associated with drug use and trafficking. All applicable evidence will be sent to BCI for testing and analysis.

Requests for other charges will be submitted to the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury review.

  • Daniel James Martin, 50, Howard Road, Millfield, was transported to the hospital for an
    evaluation. He was charged with Trafficking in Drugs (F5) and Having Weapons Under Disability
    (F3).
  • Tonia M. Martin, 44, Howard Road, Millfield, was arrested for Trafficking in Drugs (F5) and
    Possession of Drugs (F5).
