Pickaway County, OH – A two-vehicle rollover crash on November 2, 2024, led to the arrest of an Ashville man for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) and resisting arrest. The incident occurred in the area of 4800 Duvall Road, where emergency responders were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the Deputy reported that both drivers involved were out of their vehicles and appeared to be uninjured. The investigation revealed that the crash involved two individuals: the driver of one vehicle (later identified as “Unit 2”), and Jakhi Stevenson, the driver of the second vehicle (identified as “Unit 1”).

The deputy began processing the crash scene with the assistance of EMS and fire personnel. While speaking with Stevenson, the officer noticed signs of intoxication. Stevenson had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech. When asked if he had consumed any alcohol or marijuana, Stevenson denied it. However, based on his behavior, the deputy administered a series of Standard Field Sobriety Tests.

During the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, Stevenson failed to follow the pen with his eyes as instructed, exhibiting six out of six clues indicating impairment. He also failed the Walk and Turn Test and the One-Leg Stand Test, further suggesting intoxication. Given the results, Stevenson was arrested on suspicion of OVI.

Once placed under arrest, Stevenson became irate and uncooperative. He initially refused to enter the back of the patrol vehicle saying he was, “too big for it”, demanding a “Paddy Wagon.” After being instructed to comply, Stevenson threatened to resist physically, stating he would not return to the vehicle unless force was used. As deputies attempted to place him in the car, Stevenson physically resisted, kicking and trying to push his way out of the vehicle.

Deputies called for backup, and officers from Ashville and South Bloomfield arrived to assist. As the situation escalated, the Officer deployed OC (pepper) spray to subdue Stevenson, which also affected some of the other officers on scene. Medics on site treated Stevenson by flushing his eyes with water to alleviate the effects of the spray.

Following the medical treatment, Stevenson was transported to Berger Hospital for further evaluation and medical clearance. After being cleared for incarceration, he was taken to the Pickaway County Jail.

Stevenson, 29, 215 pounds 5′ 09 inches tall was booked on multiple charges, including:

  • OVI (Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Valid License
  • Marked Lanes Violation

Stevenson also provided a urine sample at the jail as part of the OVI testing process. He remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
