Chillicothe & Ross County — The local League of Women Voters is helping to host an anti-gerrymandering petition drive event Saturday.

Representatives from multiple organizations will work to get Ross County over the top, one of the 44 counties needed to get the constitutional amendment onto the fall ballot. According to a post on the League of Women Voters of Ohio Facebook page:

“Gerrymandering: When districts are drawn by the party in power and incumbent politicians with the intention of influencing who gets elected.

“District lines are manipulated in ways that give certain political groups an unfair advantage, making some votes count more than others.

“Taking politicians out of the process is the solution. That’s what the ‘Citizens Not Politicians’ amendment will do.”

The event will be 3pm to 5pm May 11th, 2024 at Orchard Hill United Church of Christ at 105 North Courtland Drive, off Western Avenue near Plyley’s Lane in Chillicothe. A drive-through location will be at 174 West Main Street in Chillicothe. They ask you to register so they know you’re coming.

“Citizens Not Politicians” coalition partners are Fair Districts Ohio, ACLU Ohio, Ohio AFL-CIO, Ohio Environmental Council, and other groups.

The League of Women Voters of Chillicothe & Ross County have a Facebook event page: “We’ll kick things off with some inspiration from local and statewide leaders, fuel up with refreshments, then launch into action with a signature collecting drive-thru from 3-5.”
