Chillicothe & Ross County — This year’s federal home improvement grants are being sought, and should arrive in December.

Dale Hartle, president of Ohio Regional Development Corporation in Coshocton, has been managing the Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP) for Ross County and Chillicothe for several years.

He gave a public hearing to the county commissioners Monday, and explained how the application process is proceeding and his anticipated results.

Hartle said the grant from the federal agency Housing & Urban Development (HUD) is for low and moderate-income families, mainly ones who own and live in their own homes, to make them more decent, safe, and sanitary. Hartle emphasized that the grant is not for for cosmetics.

He said it is a competitive program, so there are never guaranteed funds – but he has a pretty good track record. The application in due June 20th, and Hartle anticipates it to be awarded December 1st.

To learn more or apply, he said to look into the regional planning office on the county’s website. Hartle said he will also be putting out flyers and advertising for applicants.
