Chillicothe — To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, two big “America 250” events are at Adena Mansion & Gardens this weekend and next month, and two others will be in downtown Chillicothe.
“America 250 – Ross County” and the Ross-Chillicothe Convention and Visitors Bureau host “A Revolutionary Family Experience” today and tomorrow. From their Facebook Event:
“Step back in time at the Adena Mansion & Gardens on June 13–14, 2026, for the America 250 Celebration with the Brigade of the American Revolution, Northwest Department.
“Experience the sights and sounds of the 18th century through artillery demonstrations, musket and rifle drills, soldier’s kit presentations, and period military music. Visitors can explore hands-on exhibits, children’s games, cooking demonstrations, and the role of women of the era. Don’t miss George Washington, Ben Franklin, a flag retirement ceremony, beer making and other engaging activities that bring early American history vividly to life.”
The free event is 10-5 Saturday and 12-5 Sunday.

The courthouse is already dressed up for the “Fourth of July Commemoration & Dedication.” From the entry on the website of the Ross-Chillicothe Convention and Visitors Bureau:
“Join Ross County Commissioners for a Community Commemoration in front of the Ross County Court House at 11:30am, followed by Nathaniel Massie Chapter of NSDAR and America 250-Ross County dedication of the Revolutionary War Soldiers monument at Veterans Memorial Park.”
11:30am – Ross County Commemoration at the Ross County Court House
12:30pm – Monument Dedication in Veterans Memorial Park at Yoctangee Parkway, Park Street, and Chestnut Street

Then the next day, as part of the “America 250 Celebration – Ohio Goes to the Movies,” the Majestic Theatre has a free showing of the classic film “1776” on July 5th:
“The nation’s fathers harmonize their way through the founding of America in this musical adapted from a popular Broadway show.”

And on July 18th is the second gathering at Adena Mansion & Gardens, the “Community Picnic Celebrating America 250.”
“The Muffins and Worthingtons Vintage Baseball Teams will square off at noon, using the 1860 baseball rules. There will be lots of games and activities for all ages, history trivia, giveaways to guests and more. It’s going to be an old fashion American neighborhood picnic….fun for all.”
“America 250 – Ross County” is hosting monthly events through the end of the year on second Saturdays. Find a collection of their upcoming events on the website of the Ross-Chillicothe Convention and Visitors Bureau, and they have a Facebook page.
