AMANDA, Ohio — The Amanda-Clearcreek Local School District (A-C) is taking proactive steps to ensure its youngest “Aces” are ready for the classroom. The district announced today that it has received a specialized grant from the Ohio Department of Children and Youth to launch Kindergarten Bootcamp, an intensive summer readiness program.
The initiative aims to provide a strong foundation for children who may not have had access to formal preschool, helping them transition smoothly into full-time education.
Closing the Readiness Gap
Kindergarten Bootcamp is specifically designed for incoming students for the 2026-27 school year who have not participated in a formal early childhood education program. To qualify, students must meet specific criteria:
- Residency: Must attend kindergarten in the building where the program is offered.
- Income/Status: Family income must not exceed 200% of the federal poverty level (unless the child has an IEP, is in foster/kinship care, or is experiencing homelessness).
- Legal Status: Must have verified citizen or qualified alien status.
“Social and academic success in kindergarten is predictive of achievement in third grade, eighth grade, and beyond,” noted Superintendent Dr. Timothy Edwards. “A-C works to ensure our students are equipped with the tools they need to succeed. Kindergarten Bootcamp is a great opportunity for our youngest students to get the support they need to grow, learn, and thrive.”
What the “Bootcamp” Entails
The program is built on high-intensity, short-duration learning. It requires a minimum of 75 total hours of instruction, typically structured as:
- Duration: At least four weeks.
- Daily Schedule: Minimum of three hours of instruction per day.
- Small Class Sizes: A strict 1:10 staff-to-child ratio, with a maximum of 20 students per class.
The curriculum is grounded in the Science of Reading and Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards, focusing on classroom routines, social readiness, and foundational literacy.
Preschool and Kindergarten Registration Now Open
Beyond the Bootcamp, the district is currently enrolling for its standard early childhood programs:
Preschool Registration (Open until May 4)
- Eligibility: Residents of A-C District; age 3.5 by Aug. 16, 2026; must be potty trained.
- How to Register: Visit the Preschool Office (rear of A-C Primary Building off Lutz Ave) between 8:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
- Documents Needed: Birth certificate, proof of residency, and guardian’s driver’s license.
Kindergarten Registration
- Next Event: May 14 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at A-C Primary.
- Eligibility: Residents of A-C District; age 5 by Aug. 17, 2026.
- Documents Needed: Birth certificate, proof of residency, guardian’s ID, immunization records, and any relevant custody or special education documents.
Why It Matters
By investing in these early transitions, the district hopes to maximize instructional time once the school year begins, reducing the “adjustment disruptions” that often occur when children enter a structured classroom for the first time.
