No More Plastic: Aldi has achieved its ambitious goal of phasing out all plastic shopping bags from its stores by the end of 2023. This landmark decision makes Aldi the first major U.S. retailer to completely eliminate plastic grocery bags, preventing nearly 4,400 tons of plastic from entering circulation each year. This move not only benefits the environment but also aligns with Aldi’s commitment to offering affordable and eco-friendly shopping options.
Going Green with Refrigeration: Looking ahead, Aldi has unveiled a bold new goal: transitioning all U.S. stores to natural refrigerants by 2035. This initiative builds upon their existing efforts, with over 600 stores already utilizing environmentally friendly refrigerants. Using natural refrigerants, like carbon dioxide and propane, significantly reduces potential carbon emissions compared to traditional refrigerants, contributing to a healthier planet.

The company has received numerous accolades for its environmentally friendly practices, including the EPA’s GreenChill Store Certification Excellence recognition for achieving the most platinum-level certifications of any U.S. grocery retailer. Additionally, 109 Aldi stores have earned GreenChill Store Re-Certification Excellence for maintaining platinum-level certifications for five consecutive years.
