PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Route 23 and State Route 762 sent one person to the hospital Thursday evening after a pickup truck towing a dump trailer turned into the path of an oncoming SUV.
According to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 9:03 p.m. on July 16 in Harrison Township.
Investigators said a Ram 1500 pickup towing a dump trailer was traveling southbound on U.S. 23 and attempting to turn left onto eastbound State Route 762. As the truck entered the intersection, it pulled into the path of a northbound Dodge Journey traveling in the passing lane.
The Dodge was unable to stop before striking the dump trailer. After impact, the SUV crossed into oncoming traffic before coming to rest on the shoulder of the southbound lanes.
The driver of the pickup, Abinadar Antonio Gomez Salazar, 40, of Lockbourne, was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way while making a left turn, according to the crash report.
An 18-year-old passenger in the Dodge Journey was transported by Harrison Township Fire Department to a local hospital with possible injuries. The remaining occupants of both vehicles were not reported to have suffered apparent injuries.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage, with the Dodge receiving disabling damage and the pickup sustaining functional damage.
The intersection was partially closed while deputies investigated the crash and cleared the scene. The investigation lasted nearly two hours before the roadway was reopened.
