MONROE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries Thursday afternoon, July 2, 2026, after their vehicle rear-ended a farm tractor on State Route 56.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. A 2004 John Deere tractor, driven by 70-year-old Arthur Davis Dick of Mt. Sterling, was traveling eastbound on State Route 56 and slowed down to make a left turn into a private driveway.
A 2013 Ford Fusion traveling behind the tractor failed to maintain an assured clear distance. The driver, 65-year-old Daniel Dewain Cooper of Circleville, struck the rear of the tractor, causing the car to become wedged underneath the tractor’s planter attachment.
Daniel Cooper and his passenger, 64-year-old Elizabeth Borgan Cooper, both sustained suspected serious injuries. Emergency medical services transported both individuals to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment. Arthur Dick was not injured.
The Ford Fusion sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. Trooper Muhammad Ali investigated the crash, and Daniel Cooper was cited for failure to maintain an assured clear distance ahead.
