CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department kept a rapid pace on Friday, May 29, responding to 15 distinct calls for service. The daily log was highlighted by a pair of early-morning incidents at local gas stations, an animal-cruelty complaint involving an air gun, and a disturbance that triggered an “inducing panic” investigation.
Overnight Gas Station Dispatches: Trespass and Assault
Gas stations on opposite sides of town drew emergency responses during the early morning hours:
- BP Trespass: At 2:15 a.m., officers rushed to the BP station at 760 North Bridge Street. Clerks had called to report an active criminal trespass incident, prompting units to respond and clear the property.
- Safford Ave Assault: Just 12 minutes later, at 2:27 a.m., a second, separate emergency call came in from the BP Oil station at 741 Safford Avenue. An officer arrived on the scene to find an active assault had taken place. A formal investigation into the physical altercation has been launched.
Air Gun Animal Shooting and Columbus Street Disturbance
As daybreak arrived, unique complaints kept officers moving through city neighborhoods:
- Back Road Annex Incident: At 10:28 a.m., cruisers were dispatched to the city annex property off Back Road. A caller reported that a small sedan was parked in the area, and an occupant inside was actively using an air gun to target and shoot at local wildlife and animals. Police are continuing to look into the vehicle’s description.
- Inducing Panic: Shortly before noon, at 11:30 a.m., a severe neighborhood disturbance brought units to 1049 Columbus Street. The volatile nature of the incident resulted in officers taking a formal report for Inducing Panic.
Retail Theft Leads to Delinquency Charges
The River Trace Lane Walmart storefront was hit twice in quick succession Friday afternoon, keeping asset protection teams and responding units busy:
- First Offense: At 11:49 a.m., officers took an initial report regarding a traditional retail theft complaint at the store.
- Second Offense: Units returned to Walmart at 3:32 p.m. for a second shoplifting incident. This second encounter resulted in more severe formal charges, including Criminal Trespass and Contributing to the Unruliness or Delinquency of a Child.
Assaults, Traffic Crashes, and Jailhouse Warrants
- Park Street Assault: At 4:02 p.m., police responded to 142 Park Street following reports of a physical fight. Officers documented the incident as a disorderly conduct offense and identified Robert Althouse as the victim.
- Winona Boulevard Arrest: Later in the evening, at 7:42 p.m., what began as a standard disorderly conduct call on Winona Boulevard quickly escalated. A suspect on the scene fought back against arriving officers, leading to formal charges of Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Official Business, and Assault. A court summons was ultimately issued.
- Jailhouse Warrant Served: At 9:10 a.m., an officer processed paperwork inside the Law Enforcement Complex on North Paint Street, formally serving an outstanding arrest warrant to Corey Moore, who was already incarcerated inside the Ross County Jail on separate matters.
- Traffic Incidents: Traffic units handled two standard fender-benders: a stop-sign violation crash at East Water and Park Street at 3:49 p.m., and an evening “failure to control and weaving” crash on Allen Avenue at 8:09 p.m. Additionally, an active hit-skip property damage crash investigation was opened at 1136 East Main Street at 8:56 a.m.
