
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department kept a busy pace on Wednesday, May 27, responding to 15 incidents that included weapons violations, domestic disputes, theft, and missing persons, according to daily media reports printed Thursday.
Several active investigations are underway following a series of high-priority calls spanning the morning and afternoon shifts.
Firearm Discharge, Hit-Skip, and Missing Juvenile Active Cases
A string of critical incidents mid-morning prompted immediate police response and ongoing investigations:
- Discharging a Firearm: At 10:51 a.m., officers rushed to Menasha Road following a complaint regarding the illegal discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premise. Details regarding suspects or property damage have not yet been released, and the investigation continues.
- Hit-Skip Crash: Earlier, at 9:56 a.m., units were dispatched to the intersection of East Water Street and North Hickory Street to investigate a hit-skip traffic accident.
- Missing Juvenile: At 10:56 a.m., an officer was sent to East 5th Street regarding a reported missing juvenile. No description was provided in the initial log.
Domestic Violence and Unlawful Restraint
The morning shift opened with a serious domestic call at 8:37 a.m. Officers responded to Cleveland Street regarding a disorderly conduct complaint. The subsequent investigation led to a formal report for Domestic Violence and Unlawful Restraint, involving an individual accused of knowingly restraining another person’s liberty.
An earlier call at 2:56 a.m. on North Paint Street regarding active warrants was marked as an error on the log.
Heavy Wave of Local Thefts
Property crimes kept officers moving throughout the afternoon across multiple neighborhoods:
- S. Brownell St. / E. 4th St.: At 12:35 p.m., an officer took a theft report originating from a property on East Fourth Street.
- LEC Lobby Reporting: At 2:25 p.m., a citizen went directly to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) lobby to file a theft report occurring on Enterprise Place Drive.
- Attempted Theft: At 4:29 p.m., officers responded to 139 E. 7th Street for an attempted theft that had just occurred.
- Trespassing & Theft: Additional property and theft complaints were logged earlier in the day on North Bridge Street (Buff City Soap) at 11:54 a.m., North Paint Street at 3:34 p.m., and Clay Street at 4:13 p.m.
Traffic Stop Leads to Citation; Late-Night Trespass
Traffic safety enforcement remained consistent, including an afternoon crash investigation on Mt. Logan Drive at 1:30 p.m. and a marked-lanes violation on North Bridge Street at 1:59 p.m.
Later in the evening, a proactive traffic stop at 10:15 p.m. resulted in a formal citation. A marked patrol unit traveling south on Bridge Street spotted a blue Chevy truck traveling north with its passenger-side headlight out. After initiating a U-turn, the officer noted the truck’s license plate light was also unilluminated. The driver, identified as Clayton Lester, was pulled over at the Sheetz gas station at 1525 N. Bridge Street and issued a citation for the equipment violations.
The Wednesday shift concluded at 10:45 p.m. when officers responded to the Speedway gas station at 10 N. Bridge Street to handle a criminal trespassing complaint.
