CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — The Circleville Police Department handled a steady influx of 38 calls for service on Wednesday, May 27, ranging from routine traffic enforcement to emergency responses, according to official department logs printed Thursday morning.

While the majority of the day shift consisted of proactive business checks and “extra patrols” that checked out okay, several notable incidents required formal reports, emergency response, or legal action.

Afternoon Traffic Crashes and Infrastructure Issues

The mid-afternoon hours proved to be the busiest window for local emergency crews.

  • Injury Accident: At 3:24 p.m., police and medical personnel were dispatched to South Pickaway Street following reports of a traffic accident with injuries. Officers remained on scene to conduct an investigation, and an official crash report was taken.
  • Fender Bender: Exactly L2 hours later, at 4:36 p.m., a second, non-injury accident was reported on Shagbark Street, though it was cleared without needing a formal state report.
  • Downed Lines: Minutes later, at 4:41 p.m., safety crews were called to South Court Street to handle a “lines and pole down” hazard, safely clearing the roadway for commuters.
  • Property Damage: Earlier in the afternoon, at 1:02 p.m., officers also responded to Maplewood Avenue to file a report regarding property damage.

Well-Being Check Escalates to Arrest

Law enforcement conducted two separate well-being checks over the course of Wednesday evening. While a 7:04 p.m. check on Kingston Pike cleared without incident, a late-night call on Lancaster Pike resulted in a dynamic shift. At 9:45 p.m., officers responding to a welfare check at that location ended up taking at least one individual into custody, marking the only formal arrest noted on the day’s log.

Domestic Disputes and Property Sweeps

Domestic disturbances kept officers moving during the night blocks. Police responded to a “domestic trouble” call on North Court Street at 7:37 p.m., which was successfully mediated without a report. However, a later domestic call at 11:04 p.m. on Lewis Road required a formal police report to be filed.

The day shift also saw a minor structural fire scare on Town Street at 8:49 a.m. and a Fire/EMS alarm drop on North Pickaway Street at 11:24 a.m.; both locations were thoroughly inspected by first responders and checked out okay.

Traffic and Patrol Breakdown

Throughout the 24-hour cycle, Circleville officers issued four verbal traffic warnings (on East Main Street, Lewis Avenue, North Pickaway Street, and Watt Street) and handed out one official traffic citation during an 8:06 a.m. stop on East Ohio Street. Cruising units also conducted more than a dozen targeted “extra patrols” in residential neighborhoods and retail lots, reporting that all areas were secure.
