CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — History will come alive at the Ross County Heritage Center this month as the nation’s premier Ulysses S. Grant reenactor, Dr. Curt Fields, returns to the city for a special one-night-only performance.
The event, hosted by the Ross County Historical Society, is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. ### A Master of Living History Dr. Fields is widely regarded as the most authentic living historian portraying the 18th President and Civil War General. His portrayal goes far beyond a simple costume; he delivers meticulously researched first-person monologues using Grant’s own words sourced from personal memoirs, private letters, and historical interviews.
Fields’ reputation for accuracy and his striking physical resemblance to Grant have made him a staple at major national commemorations. He has portrayed the General at the 150th anniversaries of the surrender at Appomattox and the Battle of Vicksburg.
National Recognition
If Dr. Fields looks familiar to history buffs, it may be from his extensive work in film and television. His credits include:
- Documentaries: Featured on the Discovery Channel’s How Booze Built America and National Geographic’s Diggers.
- National Parks: He appears as General Grant in the official films shown to visitors at Appomattox Court House and Fort Donelson National Battlefield.
