CIRCLEVILLE, OH — The Circleville Police Department handled a heavy volume of 119 calls over the weekend of March 13–15, ranging from weather-related damage and structural fires to a high-priority domestic disturbance involving reports of shots fired.

Weather Damage and Infrastructure

Utility issues plagued the city Friday and Saturday, likely following the high-wind event that swept through the region.

  • Downed Lines: Officers responded to multiple reports of downed lines and poles on Barnes Avenue, South Pickaway Street, and South Court Street.
  • Railroad Impact: The outages also affected railroad infrastructure on Barnes Avenue, requiring coordination with other agencies to ensure track safety.

Serious Incidents and Fires

  • Pinckney Street Fire: Early Friday morning, units responded to a structural fire on Pinckney Street. A formal report was taken; however, the extent of the damage was not immediately released.
  • Fairview Blvd Disturbance: On Saturday evening at 6:00 PM, a major response was triggered on Fairview Boulevard. Callers reported a domestic dispute involving a person with a gun and shots fired. Emergency squads were dispatched, but the situation was ultimately handled on-scene with no transport to the hospital required.
  • Theft and Fraud: Notable property crimes included a stolen vehicle report on East Franklin Street on Saturday and a “Theft in Progress” call Sunday afternoon at a business on US-23 South.

Road Safety and Accidents

Traffic enforcement remained a priority, with several “Hit Skip” (hit-and-run) accidents reported:

  • Lancaster Pike: A non-injury hit-skip occurred Friday afternoon.
  • North Western Avenue: Another hit-skip was reported Friday evening.
  • Injury Crash: On Sunday morning, an accident with injuries occurred on South Pickaway Street, resulting in a citation being issued.

Public Service and Community Checks

The department maintained a high visibility presence with over 30 extra patrols and business checks throughout the weekend, specifically along the East Main and North Court Street corridors. Officers also conducted multiple “Well Being” checks and addressed several complaints regarding homeless individuals and suspicious vehicles.

While many calls—including reports of a fight on North Court and a drunk individual near the same area—ended with the subjects being “Gone on Arrival,” the department successfully served several sets of civil papers and managed multiple juvenile complaints throughout the three-day period.
