ROSS COUNTY, OH (Feb. 5, 2026) — Huntington Local School District is facing another security threat, marking the fourth reported threat this week, following a recent closure due to winter weather.
According to district officials, the Ross County Sheriff’s Office notified Huntington Local Schools at approximately 7:20 a.m. Thursday of a new threat that was called into the sheriff’s office. Despite the threat, students were allowed to enter the building as scheduled, and the district implemented a modified lockdown as a precaution.
School officials said the building was thoroughly searched both Wednesday night and again Thursday morning, with law enforcement confirming that no one entered the building overnight.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are present on campus throughout the day. Homeland Security has deployed a SkyWatch Tower to monitor activity on school grounds, and the FBI is actively working to obtain warrants to trace the origin of the threatening phone calls.
District leaders emphasized that student safety remains their top priority and acknowledged the stress the situation may be causing families, students, and staff.
“We understand the anxiety this situation may cause, and we are working closely with law enforcement to identify the source of these threats,” the district said in a statement. “Based on the precautionary measures in place and guidance from law enforcement, we are confident in our ability to safely proceed with school today.”
Huntington Local School District has now received four threats this week, following a return to classes after a week of snow-related closures. The investigation remains ongoing.
