WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a late Sunday night vote, eight Senate Democrats broke ranks with their party leadership to support a House-passed continuing resolution, moving Congress closer to ending the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The measure, which passed the Senate 60–40, met the exact threshold needed for approval. It funds military construction, the Department of Agriculture, and the legislative branch through September 30, 2026, while keeping the rest of the government running through January 30.
The eight Democrats who crossed the aisle to ensure passage were:
- Sen. John Fetterman (Pennsylvania)
- Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (Nevada)
- Sen. Jacky Rosen (Nevada)
- Sen. Dick Durbin (Illinois)
- Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (New Hampshire)
- Sen. Maggie Hassan (New Hampshire)
- Sen. Tim Kaine (Virginia)
- Sen. Angus King (Maine)
The bill now heads to President Trump’s desk for signature, which would reopen the government and end the shutdown that had stretched into its third week.
