CHILLICOTHE, OH — A new era of manufacturing is coming to Ross County. Congressman Dave Taylor (OH-02) joined Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH), Ross County Commissioner David Glass, former U.S. Ambassador Robin Bernstein, and co-owner John Todoroki at the site of the former Pixelle Paper Mill in Chillicothe to announce its sale to U.S. Paper Mill Company LLC, with U.S. Medical Glove Company (USMGC) set to begin operations as the primary tenant.
The announcement marks a major step forward for the region’s economy, with hundreds of local jobs expected to be created as production ramps up.
“The purchase of the site is a long-anticipated moment for our community,” said Congressman Taylor. “I’m elated to see this company’s investment in our region and in the former employees of the Pixelle Paper Mill. Buckeye families can breathe a sigh of relief that local jobs are returning — and with them, renewed opportunity for local businesses.”
Senator Moreno highlighted the importance of the mill’s revival for Ohio’s manufacturing legacy.
“For over 200 years, the Pixelle Paper Mill has been a cornerstone of this community,” Moreno said. “U.S. Medical Glove Co.’s investment will revitalize Ohio manufacturing and bring high-paying wages to Ross County families. I am honored to fight for some of the hardest-working people I’ve met.”
The Pixelle Paper Mill site, a longtime fixture of Chillicothe’s industrial landscape, was officially acquired on October 7. USMGC has already assigned 40 employees from its Illinois facility to help operationalize the new site and train Ohio’s workforce. So far, 50 former Pixelle employees have been rehired, with plans to expand production and hire hundreds more as new manufacturing lines are added.
Founded in 2021, U.S. Medical Glove Company is a domestic manufacturer specializing in medical and surgical gloves — including being the only U.S. producer of Polyisoprene, a key material used in surgical glove manufacturing. The company’s mission centers on strengthening America’s PPE supply chain, reducing dependence on foreign sources, and creating high-quality U.S. manufacturing jobs.
Supported by federal partnerships with the Department of Defense, Air Force, and Health and Human Services, USMGC currently produces about 2 billion gloves annually.
Ohio leaders say the company’s move into Ross County signals a turning point for the region.
“It’s rare to secure a new user for a facility as quickly as this,” said Senator Jon Husted. “With this announcement — and new jobs also coming to Piketon — southern Ohio is on the verge of a real economic boost.”
The reopening of the former Pixelle site represents not just a new chapter for the local workforce, but a symbol of revival and resilience for the Chillicothe community.
