Ashville, Ohio — International Dog Day brought big news for local animal welfare efforts as DASH Animal Rescue, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), announced a new partnership with the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.

DASH has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office to ensure the safety and care of dogs affected in law enforcement situations. This new partnership is the first of it’s kind for Pickaway County as well as for DASH.

With the partnership, DASH Animal Rescue will accept and house dogs referred by the Sheriff’s Office under qualifying circumstances, provide appropriate medical care, behavioral support, provide safe shelter. Along with that they will maintain records of intake, condition, and care to support legal or the reunification process, as well as communicate regularly with law enforcement regarding custody status and next steps.

With the MOU agreement, DASH may be called upon by the Sheriff’s Office in cases involving motor vehicle accidents or dog owners who are arrested or otherwise unable to provide care, or dogs seized from abusive, neglectful, or unsafe situations.

A DASH representative said “We are excited for this partnership! What a perfect day to announce on International Dog Day”.
