PICKAWAY COUNTY, OH — Tristian M. Stumbo, 29, of Laurelville, was sentenced to three years in prison on Monday, July 28, 2025, after pleading guilty to aggravated vehicular assault in connection to a serious crash that occurred in October 2024 on State Route 56.
The incident, which happened around 6:30 p.m. on October 23, 2024, involved Stumbo driving a 2017 GMC Sierra while towing a trailer westbound on SR-56. He crossed the center line into the path of Colleen Kinder, 52, of Kingston, who was traveling eastbound in a 2016 Lincoln MKS. In an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, Kinder veered left—avoiding a roadside ditch—but was struck nearly head-on by Stumbo’s vehicle. His truck rolled twice and the trailer became airborne, flying over Kinder’s car. A third vehicle, a 2017 Kia, was also struck during the crash, though the driver of that vehicle was not injured.Pickaway – A Serious Injury occurred after a suspect drunk driver went left of center crashing into a 52-year-old Kingston woman last week.

Stumbo, who was suspected of driving under the influence after drinking earlier at Rooster’s, reported only minor injuries. Kinder, however, suffered severe injuries and was transported first to Berger Hospital, then later to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for further treatment.
During sentencing, Judge Matthew H. Chafin ordered Stumbo to serve three years of mandatory prison time and imposed a ten-year driver’s license suspension. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Heather Carter, and Stumbo was represented by Attorney Stephen Palmer of Columbus.
Stumbo’s conviction brings closure to a case that sparked community outrage and raised renewed concerns about impaired driving and reckless behavior on rural roads in Pickaway County.
