CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — A single-vehicle crash occurred in the early hours of July 1, 2025, at the intersection of West Main Street and South Scioto Street in Circleville, resulting in a collision with a building, according to a Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office report.

At approximately 4:08 a.m., 20-year-old Aiden Lucas Cathel, driving a white 2005 Ford Five Hundred, was traveling eastbound on West Main Street. While attempting to turn right onto South Scioto Street, the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a building, causing disabling damage to the car. The crash took place at a lighted intersection under wet road conditions, with no traffic control devices reported.

The driver, who admitted to consuming alcohol and appeared emotional at the scene, was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) under Ohio Revised Code 4511.19A1. Cathel sustained possible injuries and was transported by Circleville EMS to Berger ER for evaluation. The vehicle’s airbag did not deploy, and the driver was wearing safety equipment. No other occupants were in the vehicle, and no additional injuries were reported.

Along with the OVI Cathel was charged with No seat belt, right of way at a stop sign, and speeding traffic violations; he was also charged with failure to comply with officers. He is currently being held at Pickaway County Jail.

The crash, which occurred in a work zone transition area, was investigated by Deputy Clark Kreager, with Deputy Christopher Hempstead assisting. The scene was cleared by 5:29 a.m., with the investigation taking 81 minutes. The incident remains under review, with alcohol suspected as a contributing factor.
