CHILLICOTHE, OH — Chillicothe Police responded to a dog bite complaint on McKellar St. over Memorial day weekend, according to a report released. The incident involved a neighbor’s dog attacking a resident and later injuring an officer.
The complainant reported that his girlfriend was bitten by a dog belonging to a neighbor at 323 McKellar St. The victim had approached the neighbor to report the loose dog, but as she walked away from the porch, the dog attacked, leaving two bloody scratches on her right back. She declined medical attention for her wounds.
When an officer arrived to speak with the neighbor, a Cane Corso brushed past a child and aggressively approached, nipping the officer on the back and causing a small abrasion on the right forearm. The officer warned the owner to control the dog, threatening to use a service weapon if attacked again, prompting the dog to be restrained and returned indoors. The neighbor, who had no prior warnings for a dog at large, signed a dog bite quarantine form and confirmed the dog’s vaccinations were current. She explained that a child had left the back door open, allowing the dog to escape. The Dog Warden also spoke with her, issuing a warning for the dog being at large.
