OHIO – Just two days after DeWine passed the farm hemp bill into law, the Department of Agriculture plants one hundred plants.
Senate Bill 57 decriminalizing hemp and paved the way for the development of a new hemp industry in our state. The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) will administer the newly-created hemp program. The plants that look identical to marijuana plants because they are the same species, but just have a low THC chemical content.
The new law still requires farmers to have a license to grow hemp, and those rules won’t be finalized until next year. Giving Ohio farmers the potential to have another option in the cash crop business.
