Fayette County Public Health (FCPH), in collaboration with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), continues to investigate an outbreak at the Fayette County Jail facility.

At this time, a total of 14 staff, 10 inmates, and 4 secondary contacts (close contacts of primary cases) have tested positive for COVID-19.

“A number of containment and mitigation strategies were implemented. Positive cases are separated from those who have tested negative. Individuals who become symptomatic are isolated until test results come back. Symptom checks are being conducted once per shift,” according to Helath Department

Mass testing will take place weekly so that positive cases can be isolated or quarantined. All positive cases are being monitored for secondary infections by a nurse and nurse practitioner. FCPH is also currently investigating an outbreak at a long-term care facility. The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) provides a dashboard with information pertaining to long-term care facilities, including case and mortality data and whether the facility allows visitation.

The next update of the local COVID-19 dashboard will be tomorrow due to FCPH being closed today. The Ohio Department of Health updates its COVID-19 dashboard daily at 2 p.m.
