CHILLICOTHE, OH — A routine call regarding a suspicious vehicle led to a drug-related arrest and the discovery of suspected methamphetamine in Chillicothe on Wednesday night.

Police were dispatched to 153 E. 5th Street around 11:30 p.m. after reports came in of two people using narcotics inside a black pickup truck parked in the area.

Upon arrival, officers approached the vehicle and made contact with the occupants: a male driver, later identified as Cody Jackson, and a female passenger who initially refused to identify herself. Officers noted the woman appeared to have sustained visible facial injuries, including two black eyes, raising concerns of a possible physical altercation.

After further questioning, the female passenger identified herself as Lena Garrett. Officers confirmed she had two active warrants: one from Chillicothe Municipal Court for failure to report for an 18-day jail sentence, and another from Hocking County for a bench warrant related to a No Operator’s License charge.

Garrett was taken into custody without incident, but before being transported, she admitted there were baggies containing methamphetamine inside the vehicle. Officers conducted a probable cause search and recovered two baggies with a white crystal-like substance — one weighing approximately 3.2 grams and the other about 2.2 grams. A burnt glass pipe and digital scale were also found in a backpack belonging to Garrett, which contained her ID.

Jackson was questioned at the scene and released without charges at this time. All evidence was photographed and secured at the Chillicothe Police Department.

Pending lab results, additional charges against Garrett are expected. She is scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court on Thursday morning.
