Westfall Local School District Board of Education Holds Regular Meeting

Westfall, Ohio – May 20, 2024: The Westfall Local School District Board of Education convened its regular monthly meeting at 6:36 p.m. in the community room. All board members were present: Ms. Judy Cook, Ms. Brook Ruoff, Ms. Christy Rigsby, Mr. Sean Ruth, and Mr. Mark Ruff.

Presentations: Superintendent Jeff Sheets presented Retirement Service Awards to Mr. Lou Davidson, Ms. Jackie Eitel, Ms. Debbie Hastings, Ms. Cheryl Lorson, and Ms. Dawn Miller, recognizing their years of service.

Correspondence: Thank you notes were received from numerous staff members, including Ms. Angela Ware, Ms. Holly Huff, Mr. Derek Lambert, and others, expressing their gratitude to the board.

Approval of Agenda: The board approved the meeting agenda with three amendments: removing Letter H regarding HQSD Committee Members for 2024-2025, correcting an effective date in the Superintendent’s Recommendations, and adding a resignation request from Ms. Emily Fox, Intervention Specialist.

Executive Session: At 6:51 p.m., the board entered into an executive session to discuss the employment of a public employee or official. The session concluded at 7:37 p.m.

Consent Agenda: The board approved various items in the consent agenda, which included:

  • Minutes from the April 15, 2024, meeting.
  • Awarding supplemental contracts for the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Employing extended school year instructors and summer school teachers.
  • Employing summer substitute custodians.
  • Approving LPDC, OTES, and HQSD committee members for 2024-2025.
  • Accepting resignation requests from several staff members.
  • Non-renewing all spring athletic supplemental contracts for the 2023-2024 school year.
  • Accepting the retirement request of custodian Ms. Debbie Hastings effective August 1, 2024.

Donations: The board accepted donations totaling $9,936.00, including significant contributions from the Westfall Education Foundation and the Westfall Booster Club.

Graduating Class of 2024: The board approved the list of graduates pending the completion of all requirements and grades from Pickaway-Ross CTC.

Administrator/Supervisor Contracts: Contracts were awarded to several administrators and supervisors for the 2024-2025 school year, including:

  • Ms. Margaret Evans, District Special Education Coordinator (two-year contract).
  • Mr. Joseph Jude, Middle School Principal (three-year contract).
  • Ms. Melissa Osborn, Mental Health Clinical Counselor (one-year contract).
  • Mr. Dana Ortman, High School Principal (two-year contract).
  • Ms. Amanda Patterson, Elementary School Principal (two-year contract).
  • Ms. Jenica Savage, Mental Health Clinical Counselor (one-year contract).
  • Ms. Rachel Scior, High School Assistant Principal (two-year contract).
  • Ms. Olivia Thompson, District Curriculum Coordinator (two-year contract).
  • Mr. J.D. Williamson, District Technology Director (three-year contract).
  • Ms. Lesley Wolfe, Elementary School Assistant Principal (one-year contract).

Pay Level Adjustments: Approved pay level adjustments for Mr. Logan Stepp and Ms. Tatum Tatman, advancing from a Bachelor’s Degree to a Master’s Degree pay level beginning the 2024-2025 school year. Additionally, Mr. Ryan Clark was reclassified to the maintenance supervisor pay scale effective July 1, 2024.

Certified Employee Contracts: The board awarded limited contracts to certified employees for the 2024-2025 school year, including one, two, and three-year contracts for various teachers.

Leave of Absence: The board approved an unpaid leave of absence for Ms. Lynn Huffer, an elementary teacher, for the 2024-2025 school year with a planned return for the 2025-2026 school year.

Additional Contracts: One-year contracts were awarded to Ms. Tammy Bright (elementary school teacher), Ms. Laney Patterson (high school teacher/media specialist), and Ms. Mikaela Marshall (elementary art teacher) for the 2024-2025 school year.

Extended Day Contracts: Approved extended days for the 2024-2025 school year for band directors, guidance counselors, and district librarians.

Substitute Teacher List: The board approved the substitute teacher list for May 2024 provided by the Pickaway County Educational Service Center.

Classified Employee Contracts: Non-teaching limited contracts were awarded for the 2024-2025 school year to various classified employees, including educational aides, health care coordinators, cafeteria workers, and bus drivers.

RESIGNATION REQUESTS

  1. To accept the request of Ms. Joy Hovermale, bus driver, to resign
    effective at the end of the 2023-2024 contractual school year.
  2. To accept the request of Ms. Cathleen Melia Wolf, art
    teacher, to resign effective at the end of the day, May 24, 2024.
  3. To accept the request of Mr. Nathan Mettler, teacher/intervention
    specialist, to resign effective at the end of the 2023-2024 contractual school year.
  4. To accept the request of Ms. Sharon Wippel, teacher/intervention
    specialist, to resign effective July 31, 2024.
  5. To accept the request of Ms. Anissa Horvath, educational aide, to
    resign effective at the end of the 2023-2024 contractual school year.
  6. To accept the request of Mr. Todd Rhymer, math teacher, to resign
    effective at the end of the day, May 24, 2024.
