Westfall Local School District Appoints New Superintendent in Special Board Meeting

In a significant development for the Westfall Local School District, the Board of Education convened in a special session on March 28, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in the community room. The purpose of the meeting was to address crucial matters concerning the district’s leadership.

Just recently Superintendent Jeff Sheets announced his retirement on August 1. Sheets who has lead the Mustangs for five years.

Roll Call: All board members were present:

  • Ms. Judy Cook
  • Ms. Brook Ruoff
  • Ms. Christy Rigsby
  • Mr. Sean Ruth
  • Mr. Mark Ruff

Approval of the Agenda: A motion was made by Ms. Rigsby and seconded by Ms. Ruoff to approve the agenda for the special meeting. The motion passed unanimously with all five board members voting in favor.

Board Recommendation for Superintendent: The pivotal agenda item concerned the appointment of a new Superintendent for the district. Ms. Rigsby motioned, seconded by Ms. Ruoff, to approve the resolution appointing Mr. Jason Fife as Superintendent, effective August 1, 2024. The resolution also outlined the terms of Mr. Fife’s superintendent contract for a three-year period from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2027.

The board expressed gratitude to outgoing Superintendent Jeff Sheets for his years of service and welcomed Mr. Fife, citing his extensive knowledge, experience, and leadership abilities as assets for the district’s continued success.

The resolution passed unanimously, with all board members voting in favor.

This special session marked a pivotal moment in the Westfall Local School District’s leadership transition, setting the stage for a new chapter under the guidance of Superintendent Jason Fife.

Westfall has a total of 1,300 students and employs 200 people.

Jason Fife has served 19 years in Ohio’s public education system. 6 years as an elementary / middle school teacher, junior high / high school athletic director and 13 years as a principal.
