Verizon wireless customers across the United States experienced significant connectivity issues Tuesday as a widespread network outage forced many phones into SOS mode, according to reports from users and outage-tracking services.
The disruption began around 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time (9:30 a.m. Pacific) and appeared to impact customers throughout much of the eastern United States. Verizon acknowledged the issue on social media platform X shortly after reports surged, but as of the latest update, the company has not released a timeline for when full service will be restored.

According to DownDetector, reports of service problems quickly climbed to an initial peak of approximately 115,000, before surging past 180,000 nationwide. While the number of reports has since declined, more than 110,000 users were still reporting issues as of the latest data.
Customers have reported outages spanning from South Florida to Albany, New York, and westward as far as Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with New York City emerging as a major hotspot for complaints.
Some users also reported issues with AT&T and T-Mobile, though representatives from both carriers confirmed their networks remain stable. Those disruptions appear to be related to Verizon customers attempting to connect or roam during the outage.
Verizon has not yet provided details on the cause of the outage, and customers are encouraged to monitor official company channels for updates.
