USA – House lawmakers are taking the steps to make cruelty to animals a felony allowing officers to charge across states.

The “PACT Act” specifically bans crushing, burning, drowning and impaling animals, among other things. The charges would allow officers to cross state lines after suspected abusers.

According to its co-sponsor, Republican Congressman Vern Buchanan, it would also close a big loophole. His office says the bill would specifically ban animal cruelty recorded on video.

Another co-sponsor of the bill, Democrat Ted Deutch said that this will send a clear message that our society does not accept animal abuse of any kind.

The charges of the violations could lead to up to seven years in prison.
