Pickaway County – A wrong-way driver who was heading southbound in the Northbound lanes of US-23 caused three serious crashes all in the area of Weigand Road just two weeks ago, now some information has come out about it.

According to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s office, on 11/17/23 a 911 call came into the system of a wrong-way driver on US-23 going Southbound in the Northbound lanes. Several units were dispatched to the area of 752 and US-23 at the time. Shortly afterwards more 911 calls came in that a series of crashes had happened.

According to the report Harold Maynard, 65 of Columbus Ohio was heading Southbound in his 2007 Chevy Avalance in the Northbound lanes when he side-swiped a Maroon Isuzu Rodeo on the driver’s side causing the Rodeo to spin out and come to rest on the eastbound side of US-23.

Maynard did not stop but kept driving. He then sideswiped a second vehicle a Dodge Journey causing that vehicle to spin out of control and come to rest on the right-hand lane of US-23.

Maynard then continued at a high rate of speed southbound when he hit a third vehicle a 2022 Black Toyota Avalon head-on stopping both vehicles in the roadway.

Maynard was transferred to Grant Medical Hospital with serious injuries, the driver of the Avalon was transported to Ohio Health, and the driver of the Dodge Journey was injured.

Maynard did not have insurance on the vehicle, deputies reported that drugs or alcohol were suspected in the crash.
