[Pickaway County, May 22nd, 2024] – Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey reported that on May 22, 2024, at 7:28 P.M., the Pickaway County Communications Center received a distress call regarding a two-vehicle traffic collision near Kingston Adelphi Road and State Route 159, situated in Pickaway Township.
Upon the arrival of deputies at the scene, it was discovered that the accident had taken place at the intersection of Kingston Adelphi Road and Zanes-Trace Road. Subsequent investigations revealed that 15-year-old John G. Curtis, a resident of Circleville, Ohio, was operating a 2007 white Hyundai traveling eastbound on Kingston Adelphi Road. Allegedly, Curtis veered off the right side of the roadway, then overcorrected, subsequently entering the westbound lane of travel. The Hyundai collided with a 2006 white Ford 350, driven by 27-year-old Jerian W. Troyer of Frankfort, Ohio. The impact propelled the Hyundai into a ditch, while the Ford came to rest atop the Hyundai. Tragically, both John Curtis and his passenger, 46-year-old Joe D. Curtis, also from Circleville, became trapped inside the vehicle.
Emergency responders extricated John Curtis from the wreckage and airlifted him via Med Flight to Grant Medical Center, later transferring him to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Sadly, Joe D. Curtis was pronounced deceased at the scene by Pickaway Township EMS at 8:10 P.M.
Regrettably, on Saturday, May 25, 2024, John Curtis succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision while still receiving treatment at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Sheriff Hafey extended gratitude to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Pickaway Township Fire and EMS, Saltcreek-Tarlton EMS and Fire Department, Green Township Fire and EMS, Clearcreek Township Fire Department, MedFlight, and Air Evac for their invaluable assistance at the scene.
The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the traffic crash.
