UPDATE: Fatal Accident Occurs in Pike County in Early Morning

Chillicothe – The Chillicothe Post is currently investigating a one vehicle crash that occurred on SR 220 in Pike County. At approximately 2:39 AM, Zachary Howard, age 18, of Piketon, Ohio, was operating a 2006 Honda Civic. Mr. Howard failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the right side of the roadway, and struck a guardrail. Mr. Howard was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS personnel. The front passenger was Andrew Mayton, 20 of Waverly, Ohio. Mr. Mayton was transported to Adena Waverly Hospital for life threatening injuries. His current condition is unknown at this time.

SR 220 was closed for approximately two hours.

Port Ambulance from the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant, Pike County EMS, Pee Pee Township EMS and Pee Pee Township Fire Department responded to the scene to assist.

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol is believed to be involved. Motorist are reminded to never drink and drive.
