WELLSTON, Ohio (January 18, 2024) – A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US 35 and Dixon Run Road in Jackson County sent both drivers to the hospital with minor injuries and briefly shut down a lane of traffic on Thursday afternoon.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the incident at 3:32 pm. According to their report, 23-year-old Hollie Tolliver of Wellston, Ohio, driving a red 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, collided with a brown 2021 Peterbilt semi driven by 29-year-old Matthew Velazquez of Charleston, West Virginia.

The investigation indicates that Velazquez was traveling southeast on US 35 East while Tolliver was crossing the intersection southwest on Dixon Run Road. Tolliver entered the intersection in front of Velazquez, causing the collision. Both vehicles swerved off the road, with the Silverado coming to rest and the semi striking a signpost and overturning.

Thankfully, neither driver sustained serious injuries. However, due to the nature of the accident and the involvement of a tanker trailer carrying hazardous materials, multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Medical Services, Ohio Department of Transportation, Bloomfield Township Fire Department, Emergency Management Agency, Environmental Protection Agency, Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, and towing companies.

The tanker trailer did not rupture, and no hazardous materials were released. However, the right lane of US 35 East remained closed from 4 pm until the scene was cleared. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
