Ashtabula, Ohio – March 9, 2024 – A perplexing situation unfolded earlier this week at the Ashtabula County Medical Center (ACMC) when two unidentified women dropped off a deceased elderly man on Monday, March 4th.

According to reports, the women arrived shortly after 5:00 pm and left the facility quickly without offering any details about the man or themselves. However, a few hours later, one of the women reportedly contacted ACMC and provided some information about the deceased, who was later identified as 80-year-old Ashtabula resident Douglas Layman.

Responding to Mr. Layman’s residence, Ashtabula Police Department officers interviewed two women identified as Loreen B. Feralo and Karen Casbohm. The investigation revealed a disturbing sequence of events that transpired earlier that day.

Authorities allege that Ms. Feralo and Ms. Casbohm discovered Mr. Layman deceased inside the residence they all shared. Furthermore, it is alleged that with the help of a third, unidentified individual, they placed Mr. Layman in the front seat of his car and drove him to a bank. It’s further alleged that the women withdrew an undisclosed amount of money from Mr. Layman’s account, positioning him in the vehicle specifically for bank staff to see. Following the alleged bank transaction, the women reportedly transported Mr. Layman to ACMC before leaving the facility.

As a result of the investigation, both Ms. Feralo and Ms. Casbohm have been charged with Gross Abuse of a Corpse and arraigned in Ashtabula Municipal Court. Authorities are currently reviewing the case for potential additional charges.
