JACKSON, Ohio — Tar Hollow State Park will be temporarily closing for a year-long improvement project starting January 1, 2025. The closure will affect all day-use visitors, as well as most park facilities.

During this period, the park will be closed to general access, including areas such as the main campground, the park’s general store, nature center, beach, flush restrooms, and shower house. All electric campsites will be unavailable, and the road will be closed at the park office, restricting access to much of the park’s amenities.

However, the Northridge non-electric campgrounds, which accommodate tents only, will remain open, though visitors will need to park outside the gate. Additionally, the four non-electric shelter houses located on the ridge—Lookout, Pine Point, Sheep’s, and Dogwood Shelter—will be available for reservations during the closure.

For those wishing to reserve these open facilities, reservations can be made online at www.reserveohio.com or by calling 1-888-644-6727.

The closure is part of an extensive plan to improve park infrastructure and amenities, ensuring that Tar Hollow State Park remains a top destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has emphasized that these improvements are essential for maintaining the park’s long-term sustainability and enhancing the visitor experience.

For more information and updates about the closure and upcoming improvements, visitors are encouraged to check the ODNR website or contact the park directly.
