Chillicothe, Ohio – On Saturday, April 20th, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., residents of Ross County are invited to come together for the Ross County Scioto River Waterway Cleanup initiative. The event aims to beautify and preserve the local environment by removing litter and debris from the Scioto River and its surrounding areas.

Participants are instructed to gather at the last parking lot to the right in the Chillicothe Annex. To ensure comfort and safety during the cleanup, volunteers are advised to wear old clothes, rubber boots, and bring gloves. The cleanup effort will proceed regardless of weather conditions, unless severe weather poses a risk to participants’ safety. There is no scheduled rain date for the event.

In addition to the satisfaction of contributing to a cleaner environment, volunteers will be provided with refreshments as a token of appreciation for their efforts. Groups participating for community service credit can also request a certificate and a letter of recognition for their group.

Following the cleanup, participants are encouraged to stop by the 24th Annual Earth Gathering, taking place from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on the lawn of the Pump House Center for the Arts. Sponsored by Ross County Litter Control and Recycling, Chillicothe Parks & Recreation, RPHF Solid Waste District, and Crispie Creme Donuts, the Earth Gathering offers further opportunities for community engagement and environmental education.

For those seeking more information or wishing to get involved, Ross County Litter Control and Recycling can be contacted at 740-772-3326 or via email at [email protected].

The Ross County Scioto River Waterway Cleanup initiative underscores the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship and serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving natural resources for future generations.
