Washington, DC – Congressman Mike Carey (R-OH) applauded the U.S. House of Representatives for passing his Imaging Services Price Transparency Act, which requires medical providers to disclose the prices of X-Ray, CT, and MRI scans.

“Every year, millions of hardworking Ohioans are blindsided by medical costs,” said Congressman Carey. “Our bipartisan bill makes it easier for consumers to know, in advance, the price of an X-Ray or CT scan. This will not only improve transparency in the health care system, but also create competition between hospitals, out-patient facilities, and local clinics.”

Congressman Carey’s Imaging Services Price Transparency Act was included within the larger Lower Costs, More Transparency Act. This package was crafted jointly by the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Education and Workforce Committee, and the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

“Imaging services, like an X-Ray or CAT scan, are common and important tools in health care, but their prices can vary drastically, making it difficult for patients to ensure they are finding the best value,” said Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO). “Thanks to Rep. Carey, the Imaging Services Price Transparency Act will remove the guesswork for patients and allow them to find quality care at a price they can afford.”
