Mel Duncan Martin, age 53, of Lexington, Indiana, formerly of Circleville, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2015, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.

Mel entered this life on Aug. 22, 1961, in Circleville, at Berger Hospital. He was the loving son of Wilson and Susan Hedges Martin.

He was a 1980 graduate of Logan Elm High School and studied at Pickaway-Ross Joint Vocational Trade School for his working career.

Mel was united in marriage on Nov. 29, 1985, to Amy Drew in Tarlton. This happy union of 30 years was blessed with a daughter, Sara, and a son, Drew.

He had resided in Jefferson County since 1991 and owned and operated Regulator Repair Service at his family farm near Lexington, Indiana. Mel also worked for 10 years in welding with Madison Ironworks and most recently began a new career in welding with Aisin USA Mfg. in Seymour, Indiana.

Mel enjoyed nature, animals and loved his dogs. He enjoyed his 35-year hobby with riding his motorcycle and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye basketball and football fan.

Mel loved being involved in his children’s activities and interests. He also built and restored primitive and reclaimed furniture. Mel was very active and interested in his children’s religious education with Prince of Peace Catholic Church and schools.

Mel died on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at 8:30 p.m. in a motorcycle accident on Indiana State Highway 56 and Thompson Road near Madison, Indiana.

Mel will be missed by his loving wife of 30 years, Amy Drew Martin of Lexington, Indiana; his loving daughter, Sara Martin of Seymour, Indiana; his loving son, Drew Martin of Los Angeles, California; his father, Wilson Martin of Tarlton; his loving brothers, Mitch Martin of Tarlton, Matt Martin and his wife, Linda, of Circleville; his loving sisters, Willa Sykes and her husband, Tom, of Tarlton and Porta Guttner and her husband, Gyorgy, of Canal Winchester; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gerald and Nancy Drew of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; his brothers-in-law, Mike Drew and David Drew of Edgewater, Maryland; his nieces and nephews, Sarah Sykes Henderly, Timothy Eli Sykes, Jenna Martin Glumac, Gram Martin and Myra Guttner Gagliardi; and several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Hedges Martin, who died Nov. 13, 2005; and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2015, by Father Christopher A. Craig at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Dr. in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Indiana. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.
