CIRCLEVILLE – Investigators are working to determine the cause of a barn fire about 11:20 a.m. Friday on Ringgold Southern Road just north of U.S. Route 22.

The blaze damaged the outbuilding at the home of Mark and Stephanie List, who were home at the time but no injuries were reported.

Stephanie List, who works the night shift, said she was sleeping and her husband had just arrived home minutes before he noticed smoke pouring out of the barn behind the residence.

“Someone driving by in a truck actually saw it first, I think, and called it in,” List said.

She said her husband tried to get inside the barn, then realized the front tire of his work truck parked inside was on fire and the structure was filled with smoke. It was fully engulfed in just a matter of minutes, she said.

List said they had just recently moved into the home and had a trailer full of belongings parked beside the barn. The passerby was able to hitch the trailer to his truck and pull it to safety before anything inside was destroyed.

“We really appreciate him doing that,” she said.

The Clearcreek Fire Department managed the scene with the assistance of Amanda, Pickaway Township, Harrison Township and Circleville fire departments. The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
