Albert Junior Roese, 93, of South Bloomfield, passed away at his home June 22, 2017.
He was born in South Bloomfield to John and (Sadie Bragg) Roese on Feb. 11, 1924.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Paul Albert; daughter, Melody Buckler; brothers, Jack and William; and sister, Pearl York.
Surviving him are his wife of 68 years, Jewell (Polley) Roese; sons, John (Betty) of Florida and Patrick (Elizabeth) of Kentucky; daughters, Frances Cook of Virginia and Susan Seevers of Circleville; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and dear friend, Pat Riley.
Junior was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1942.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the Coast Guard aboard a Destroyer Escort. He retired from the Coast Guard Reserve after 30 years of service.
He was also retired from Battelle Memorial Institute as a research scientist.
Junior served as mayor of South Bloomfield for over 30 years, a job he thoroughly enjoyed.
He was a charter member of Rick Brown Memorial VFW 7941 and a past commander, a member of AMVETS 2256 and the American Legion, as well as past Grand Commander of the Military Order of the Cootie (the honor degree of the VFW), and past 7th Supreme M.O.C. Commander (Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana). He was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in 2009.
Junior was a good man who loved his family above all else.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St., Ashville. VFW and MOC service will follow at 7 p.m. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Floyd Hubbell officiating. Burial will follow at Harrison Twp. Cemetery in South Bloomfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South Bloomfield United Methodist Church in his memory.
