CIRCLEVILLE – A Columbus man was arrested on DUI and drug charges after a traffic stop Thursday evening on U.S. Route 23.
Mark Michael Denny, 42, of Columbus, was released on bond at his arraignment Friday in Circleville Municipal Court and is set for a preliminary hearing in the case on Sept. 13.
According to Sheriff Robert Radcliff, the incident began about 6:41 p.m. Sept. 1 when dispatchers began receiving multiple calls about a vehicle driving erratically on U.S. Route 23.
Deputy Kyle Eveland located the vehicle and observed several traffic violations before stopping the white 2008 Dodge Caravan, Radcliff said.
Eveland reported Denny, the driver, appeared to be intoxicated, and he was taken into custody. In the meantime, a free-air narcotics check was conducted by Deputy Jeremy Wallace and the canine unit, Turpin, who made a positive alert on the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle by Eveland and Deputy Phil Relli reportedly uncovered 9.3 grams of crack cocaine, 3.2 grams of heroin and $2,570 in cash, which were seized and taken as evidence by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
Denny is charged with driving under the influence and two counts of felony drug possession.
Radcliff said the incident remains under investigation.
