WALNUT TOWNSHIP – Three people were hospitalized following a three-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 23 at Little Walnut on Saturday.

Renee Boardman of Circleville was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 23 about 4:13 p.m. when she slowed to make a left turn onto Little Walnut Road, according to Deputy Phil Relli, Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.

Gary Caldwell, 50, of Columbus, was traveling southbound behind her and struck the rear of her black Mazda with his pickup truck.

Relli said the impact pushed both vehicles into the median. Boardman’s Mazda rolled over and landed on its tires, trapping the driver and a juvenile passenger inside.

Caldwell’s pickup truck veered back onto the roadway and crashed into a third vehicle, a Nissan Juke driven by Kathlene Kimble, 27, of Delaware.

Boardman was airlifted from the scene to a Columbus hospital for treatment, Relli said. Her juvenile male passenger was transported to Berger Hospital for treatment.

Caldwell also was transported to Berger Hospital following the crash.

Kimble suffered no injuries in the accident, Relli said.

Crews from the Circleville, Pickaway Township, Harrison Township and Scioto Township fire departments handled emergency services at the scene. The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by troopers from the Circleville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash remains under investigation.
