COLUMBUS – Rumpke driver Ed Greene of Williamsport was named a finalist for Driver of the Year by the National Waste and Recycling Association (NWRA) for his commitment to safe driving.

“Our goal is to develop a team of safe, professional and reliable drivers that have a positive impact on our customers and community,” said Andrew Rumpke, vice president at Rumpke. “Ed is an excellent example of the safety and customer service standards we strive for, and we are fortunate to have him on our team.”

Greene has driven for Rumpke for 21 years. For years, he provided trash service to approximately 120 commercial customers daily in Central Ohio, including businesses, restaurants, schools and churches.

Greene recently accepted an advancement at Rumpke and will drive various routes and specialty projects daily as a utility driver. His new role requires advanced planning, driving and navigation skills, dependability and commitment to safety. He resides with his wife in Williamsport and has three children.

Darren Gibson, who drives one of 37 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks in Rumpke’s Columbus operation, was also named a finalist. Gibson has driven for Rumpke for 13 years and provides trash and yard waste services for approximately 800 residential households daily in Dublin, Gahanna, Reynoldsburg and Blendon Township. He resides with his wife in Grove City and has three children.

Each year, NWRA selects the safest and most outstanding drivers in the industry. Companies are placed in categories based on the number of vehicles in their fleet. Rumpke is classified as a “Regional Carrier” with a fleet between 251 and 2,000 trucks.
