Everett Blanton, age 83, of Ringgold, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
He was born on March 19, 1933, in Floyd County, Kentucky, a son of the late John Ed and Myrtle (Fairchild) Blanton.
Everett had worked for 37 years as a heavy equipment operator for Ohio Operating Engineers and was a member of the Columbus Union Local 18 for over 50 years.
He attended First Baptist Church of Ashville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Cambridge, Bill, Elic, Laura, Darcus and Jim, who raised him along with his children; also preceded by nieces Geneva and Bethel.
He is survived by wife of 59 years, Donna J. (McNabb) Blanton; daughter, Vivian (Michael) Smith of South Bloomingville; sons, Lowell (Joyce) Blanton of Ashville, Donald (Bruce Hutflies) Blanton of Columbus and Howard Blanton of Ringgold; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and another on the way; and nephew and nieces with whom he was raised, Jo, Lora, Juanita, Jimmy and Carol. He is also survived by numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2016, at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St., Ashville, with Pastor Mike Southerland officiating. Interment will follow in Reber Hill Cemetery, Ashville, with AMVETS Post 2256. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
