Carl E. Strous, 82, of Amanda, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital at the Ohio State University.

He was born April 21, 1934, in Pickaway County, and was the son of the late Fred and Carroll (McNeil) Strous.

Carl was a member of St. Jacobs Lutheran Church. He was a 1952 graduate of Salt Creek, retired from DuPont and was a farmer in Pickaway County for many years.

He started a Wildlife Habitat Enhancement Council (WHEC) program at the Circleville DuPont plant. This was the first such program in Ohio, and he received the U.S. Ambassador Award in 1993 for his efforts.

Carl was instrumental in the formation of the Tarlton Fire Dept. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

Carl is survived by his wife of 55 years, Thelma (Hartranft) Strous; son, Kevin (Kathy) Strous of New Albany and Sherry Lendhurst of Grove City; and grandchildren, Jacob, Jennalee and Jonathan Strous and Lindsay Lendhurst.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Strous.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda. Burial will follow in Tarlton Cemetery where he will be honored by AMVETS Post #2256, Circleville. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

The family suggest memorial contributions to Tarlton EMS or Logan Elm Health Care Residents Council.
