Robert J. Clifton, age 68, of Orient, died Monday, June 6, 2016, in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
He was born March 14, 1948, in London.
Robert proudly served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970 as a member of the 4th infantry division. He was a Vietnam War veteran, earning a bronze star medal with valor, as well as numerous other commendations.
He was a graduate of The Plains High School, Class of 1966, and he will be sadly missed by classmates at the 50-year reunion on June 10. He was also a member of the Derby United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert and Dorothy (McHenry) Clifton; brother, Jim Clifton; and sister, Barbara Hatfield.
He married the love of his life, Debbie (Tracy) Clifton, on July 5, 1970. He is also survived by son, Tracy (Shaney) Clifton of Grove City; daughter, Kelly (Zach) Durban of West Jefferson; three grandchildren, his pride and joy, Tyrus Clifton, Hunter McCoy and Audrey McCoy; sisters, Gloria Johnson and Carolyn Ball; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016, at the Porter-Tidd Funeral Home, Mt. Sterling. The interment will follow in Pleasant Cemetery with military honors. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
