James R. Walker, 88, of Scioto Township near Commercial Point, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Berger Hospital.
He was born June 24, 1927, to the late Lawrence N. and Sarah Ellen (Redman) Walker on the family farm that has been in the Walker family for several generations.
Jim was a life-long farmer, had been a Scioto Township Trustee, a past member of the Commercial Point Men’s Club, and past volunteer fireman in Scioto Township.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice (Burgett) Walker in 2002; a sister, Betty Thompson; and brothers, Jack and Richard Walker.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, JoEllen (Dan) Southers of Scioto Township; grandson, Ryan (Kori) Southers of Ashley; great-granddaughter, Evelyn Mary “Evie” Southers; numerous nieces and nephews; and many life-long special friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St., Ashville, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016, with Chaplain Jim Ferrell officiating. Interment will follow at Beckett Cemetery, Commercial Point.
