Maxine “Maxie” Rowland, 83, of Frankfort, died at 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe, following a short illness.
She was born on May 4, 1932, in Johnson County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Spence and Nola Elkins Keaton.
On May 25, 1955, she married Russell “Doc” Rowland, who preceded her in death on April 9, 1999.
Maxine is survived by her five daughters, Brenda Sollis, Linda (Marvin) Whaley, Judy Abbott (James) Wood, Kathy (Daniel) Schirm and Carma (Brad) Trainer; eight grandchildren, Joy Brown, Eric Schirm, Josh Trainer, Matthew McGee, Aaron Schirm, Stacey Stephens, Jennifer Sollis, and Shayna Trainer; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dixie Collier of Columbus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Virgil Keaton, Percy Keaton and Hershel Keaton; and four sisters, Lois Keaton, America “Mercia” Keaton, Emma Sparks and Pauline Cole, all of Kentucky.
Maxine retired from the VA Medical Center, Chillicothe, where she worked as a nurse’s aide for 14 years. She attended many local churches and she and her husband, Doc, established the Frankfort Free Baptist Church.
Maxine was a caregiver all her life and worshiped and praised the Lord. She was always singing.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016, in the Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort, with Bob Rose and Pastor Mark Clendaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may visit Maxine’s family at funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
