Elsie M. Downing, 97, of Ashville, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at Brown Memorial in Circleville.
She was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Jackson, to the late Samuel O.H. and Ella (Brunton) Callahan.
She attended Jackson High School in Jackson and was a homemaker.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Downing, a World War II veteran of the US Army. She was also preceded by four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her son, David (Darlene) Downing of Columbus; grandson, Dustin Downing of Columbus; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dee Krysty and the staff of Caring Touch for their wonderful attention and care of Elsie.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m until the time of service at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St., Ashville, with Rev. Curtis Sheets officiating. Concluding service and interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbus.
