YMCA Dance presents “The Nutcracker” today at CHS

The Pickaway County Family YMCA Dance & Art Studio will present its annual performance of “The Nutcracker” for two performances Saturday at Circleville High School.

Performances are set for 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $9 and are available at the door.

The YMCA Art program also will be hosting an art show in the hallway adjacent to the auditorium during the performances.

The seasonal performance is directed by Meghan Marshall and features choreography by the YMCA Dance staff.

“We have dancers that are ages 2 to 18 doing styles from ballet, tap, contemporary and baton,” she said.

Marshall said she is very proud of all of her students for once again bringing “The Nutcracker” to life, and she is especially pleased with a few new costumes this year, as well as some new music.

“We have been doing this a long time, so it is fun to add new things for audiences as well as the students,” she said. “I think our first production of the show was in partnership with Roundtown Players back in the late 1990s.”

The studio will present its spring recital, “Once Upon a Time…” on April 23.
